In 2002, when he appeared on the scene kitted out in the typical township kwaito star look of a green prison warder jersey, khaki shirt, Dickies chinos, All Stars and a tilted wool beanie, the boy from Zola, Soweto, made his presence felt. Brown Dash(real name Siphiwe Mpamile) was discovered by TS Records’ boss, TK Nciza, when he was a backing vocalist and dancer for Mapaputsi in his hit song “Izinja”. He also worked with kwaito outfit Amasgumfete. When the popular mask-clad Mzekezeke became a music phenomenon with Sguqa-Ngamadolo, Brown was by his side and became the “face” of their collaboration. On 24 September 2016, 2017 & 2018, Mahlomola Kekana Foundation in partnership with the City of Johannesburg’s Department of Community Safety put together the Brown Dash Tribute Concert. The festivities included the Brown Dash Activation Fridays with the main concert taking place at the Orlando Stadium. The event/s saw Mandoza, Brickz, Ntando, Seshman, Mapaputsi and Ronnie aka “Cosmo” on Generations spearheading the festivities. TS Records Boss, DJ Sbu supported the launch. Entice Communications and Media was responsible for PR Services for the event/s.
